Norway is 3.64, down from 3.67 Britain (the UK) is 5.01, down from 5.16. The U.S. is 6.37, down from to 6.5 in 2005. China is 22.12, down from 24.28 in 2005. South Africa is 59.44, down from 61.81 in 2005. Sierra Leone has gone from bad to worse: 158.27, up from 143.64 in 2005.
The top countries estimated for 2007, by the way, are first, Singapore at 2.3 deaths per 1000, then Sweden at 2.76, and Japan at 2.8, down from 3.26 in 2005. The worst countries are Angola at 184.44, down from 191.19, Sierra Leone, and Afghanistan at 157.43, down from 163.07 in 2005. Iraq is estimated at 47.04, down from 50.25. Across the Iraqi border to Syria the figure is 27.7, down from 29.53 in 2005.
