Mitt Romney versus Secularism

While criticizing President Obama, Mitt Romney has said, "I think there is a desire to establish a religion in America known as secularism." (Video)

Dictionary.com defines secularism as "a system of political or social philosophy that rejects all forms of religious faith and worship." My Mac dictionary describes secularism as "denoting attitudes, activities, or other things that have no religious or spiritual basis."

How does Romney arrive at secularism as a religion? He does so the same as others have. It's not a Romney invention. It's been around for awhile. These are people with some intelligence but who fail to fathom the significance of a negative. For them, non-belief is a belief. Not believing that their god Jehovah exists, for example, is a belief and therefore a religion – as absurd as that may sound to someone who doesn't share their belief.

The bad news for Romney is that we can choose a negative, the choice of not knowing or not making religion a part of our lives, or not accepting any point that is metaphysical, in other words the choice of being secular without being religious.
