Peshawar

Pakistan's oldest city – it is said. Near the entrance to Khyber Pass. In the 1980s it was the birthplace of al Qaeda.  In 2006 it is a base of operations for the Taliban. Dress in the city is Taliban conservative. Conservative mullahs hold high office. People view bin Laden without negativity. The reporting of bin Laden's presence there, should he pass through, is not to be expected. 

The city is a commercial center receiving trade from Afghanistan. Industries include handicrafts and the manufacture of processed food, footwear and silk.
