Quemoy or Jinmen Island

Fifty square miles, or 130 square kilometers. Used by Chiang Kai-shek as a jumping off point for harassing mainland China. Occupied by as many as 300,000 of Chiang Kai-shek's troops. Bombarded by the mainland in 1958, along with Mat-su, inspiring talk of communist aggression by a few people in Washington D.C.
