Ma-tsu, or Mazu Island

Seventeen square miles, or 44 square kilometers. Used by Chiang Kai-shek as a jumping off point for harassing mainland China. Bombarded by the mainland in 1958, along with Quemoy, inspiring talk of communist aggression by a few people in Washington D.C.
