Aqaba

A port city in Jordan. Jordan's only outlet to the sea. Dates back at least to King David and the Ancient Egyptians. Was occupied by the Crusaders in 1095 and forgotten by the world from the 1600s until early in the 1900s.

Aqaba has been a point of trade between Jordan and Iraq. It is also a resort.

Its population for 1996 has been estimated at 52,000.
