Samoa

That part of Samoa governed by New Zealand, Western Samoa, was occupied by a small New Zealand force from the beginning of the war. In American Samoa, at Pago Pago (pronounced Pango Pango) was a U.S. Naval base. For the Allies, Samoa was an important communications link during the war.

The Japanese had plans to take Samoa, Fiji and New Caledonia but abandoned this plan after failures elsewhere.

The islands survived the war untouched by Japan.
