Historically in philosophy those called idealists have claimed that reality is essentially idea, as in the mind of God. Materialists have claimed that reality is essentially matter. But Materialists are empiricists, and empirically we can't prove that reality is essentially anything. Materialists should give up claiming what reality is in essence and limit themselves to criticizing the assumptions of idealists.
